Nottingham's suburbs and towns were built in different decades, so their garages differ: a bay at the side of an older semi, a broad attached garage on a 1970s or 1980s detached house, an integral garage beneath a bedroom on a newer development. Each page explains what that means where you live.
- 01 · NG5, NG3Arnold and MapperleyGarage conversions in Arnold and Mapperley start with one question most firms skip: which council is yours? Arnold sits wholly in Gedling borough, while Mapperley straddles the city line.→
- 02 · NG9Beeston and StaplefordGarage conversions in Beeston, Chilwell, Toton and Stapleford turn underused garages beside the tram line into bedrooms, offices and family rooms.→
- 03 · NG13, NG12Bingham and Radcliffe on TrentGarage conversions in Bingham and Radcliffe on Trent usually mean a family home on a newer estate gaining a bedroom, study or playroom without an extension.→
- 04 · NG4Carlton and GedlingGarage conversions in Carlton and Gedling turn a cold, half-used store into a room the family actually spends time in.→
- 05 · NG16Eastwood and KimberleyGarage conversions in Eastwood and Kimberley give homes in these former mining towns a room that is worth heating and using.→
- 06 · NG15HucknallGarage conversions in Hucknall give NG15 households the extra room they need without moving away from the tram, the Robin Hood Line and the M1.→
- 07 · NG10, DE7Long Eaton and IlkestonGarage conversions in Long Eaton and Ilkeston fall under Erewash Borough Council in Derbyshire, even though both towns look towards Nottingham.→
- 08 · NG2, NG12West BridgfordGarage conversions in West Bridgford rarely start with the Victorian streets near Trent Bridge; they start on the newer roads towards Gamston, Edwalton and Sharphill, where garages are common.→

Garage conversions near Nottingham: area questions
How your location and its council shape the project.
01Which places around Nottingham do you cover?
The city and the towns ringed around it. The pages here deal with West Bridgford and Edwalton, Beeston and Stapleford, Arnold and Mapperley, Carlton and Gedling, Hucknall, Long Eaton and Ilkeston, Bingham and Radcliffe on Trent, and Eastwood and Kimberley. Homes between them, and in the city itself, are surveyed on exactly the same basis.
02Which council handles my garage conversion?
It depends on your address. Inside the city boundary it is Nottingham City Council. West Bridgford, Bingham and Radcliffe on Trent fall under Rushcliffe, Beeston, Stapleford, Eastwood and Kimberley under Broxtowe, Arnold and Carlton under Gedling, and Hucknall under Ashfield. Long Eaton and Ilkeston are over the border in Derbyshire with Erewash. A registered building control approver is the alternative to council Building Control.
03Does the council make a difference to the process?
The steps are the same everywhere: drawings, a Building Regulations application, inspections and a completion certificate. What differs is the fee each council charges, its conservation areas and any planning conditions on particular estates, which is why we confirm the right council and check those points at the survey.
04What if my home is not on this list?
Ring 07497 659212 and tell us where you are. Often we can still come out, and if your address is too far away we will say so at once.
